Forward has purchased 25 x 69kg bages of Finca El Retiro Washed Mixed Varieties.
Twenty-five (25) bags have been booked by Rosso Coffee Roasters in Calgary, Alberta
Finca El Retiro was rented by the Falla family for a period of 20+ years five and a half years ago.
The farm, although it had already had coffee planted in it, was completely abandoned. As soon as the farm began to be managed by Estuardo Falla, the first decision was to renovate 100% of the fields, plant new fields as well and work on the land as a new farm.
This year marks the first official harvest that the coffee has been processed and exported and we are very happy with the results. Finca El Retiro has a great soil that retains water in an exceptional way, and it is fortunate to have a great altitude and weather year round to support the growth of coffee.
The farm is close to Guatemala City, about a 30 minute drive from the city which makes it very accessible and easy to visit and monitor.
In the cup profile, you can expect very sweet qualities and subtle complexities. The texture is round and coating, with a stonefruit sweetness that reminds us of apricot. There's hinting berry and citrus qualities, playing into a medley of raspberry and Liptons iced tea. Milk chocolate on the finish and an overall balanced and versatile cup.
